Before we get started I need you to do a few things I promise it's not too crazy.
Get paper and a pen
Find a quiet space
And really lock-in
I get so many inquires from people looking to start and or update a brand but just being real half of them are just not ready. I mean really ready to do the work necessary to birth a strong brand. Now let me get off my high horse. I've been in that space before, not really know what my brand's voice or what I wanted my customers and clients to feel. I just put my work out there and hoped just one person would be willing to be interested. It was not until I really locked in did the work my brand started to have a voice and connect with people. I want the same for you and your business, I want you to be ready when working with web designers and graphic designers. If I'm still being honest lots of people reach out to me as web designers having no clue what there is trying to convey to their audience. So I want you to boss it on up and become aware of what it takes to have a strong brand then business. SO LET'S DO THE DAMN THANG!
#1 KNOW WHO YOUR IDEAL CUSTOMER OR CLIENT IS
Knowing your ideal customer or client is important. You need to know what they look for in a brand – like, how do they want you to make them feel? What makes them tick? How a brand for corporate clients looks will be hugely different to a brand for creative clients, so it's so important to think about your client.
#2 CONSIDER LEAVING IT UP TO A PROFESSIONAL
Designing is an art and science behind logo design, color selection, font selection – even the file types. Ok so you created a logo in Canva but your having a hard time creating other things for your brand or keeping the vision consistent. Well, a professional should be to create a strong brand vision and create consistency through your brand. Thinking about hiring a professional? book a consultation call and let's chat about your upcoming project.t is constant throughout your brand.
#3 LET YOUR BRAND EVOLVE OVERTIME
When you started your business, you might have loved a bright neon pink, but maybe now you don't love it so much. Just because you started with that color palette does not mean you have to keep it it's on to make updates. Whether it's a color, font, logo, icon – whatever it is, don't be afraid to let it change over time. But, when you change it, make sure you stay consistent with that change. So, don't start mixing and matching lime green one day and then rust-brown the next.
LET'S CHAT ABOUT DEFINE YOUR BRANDS VOICE:
Your brand tone of voice is so important when it comes to marketing your business. Not only does it tell the customer and or clients about your brand's personality, but it also goes a long way towards building a connection and making things interesting.
IF YOUR BRAND WERE A PERSON, WHAT WOULD THEY BE LIKE?
Are they into style and makeup? Are they DIY's and crafts? dose your customer or clients like to go out or would rather stay home on a Friday night? There's no right or wrong answer here, it just should align with how your brand looks and feels. So, if your visuals are fun and out there then your tone of voice shouldn't be reserved or formal.
**OK SO NO I WANT YOU TO LOCK IN! ARE YOU READY?**
Let's talk about what words will your brand use? what words does it avoid?
Does your brand use short, simple, snappy words? Or, does it prefer to discombobulate the reader and demonstrate its intelligence with long-winded or technical words?
Are there any particular words that are part of your brand? Or, any words that are definitely not part of your brand? For example, does your brand swear? If it does, at which swear words do you draw the line at?
Does your brand use emojis? Acronyms? Abbreviations? These are all things to consider writing down so that you and anyone else can just pick up your brand's writing style and run with it.
Good question! Can my brand have a different tone of voice on different platforms?
You might have slight variations of your brand tone of voice on different platforms. For example, the way you email a client might be slightly different to how your brand communicates on Instagram. And, that's fine, as long as it's not super drastically different.
I wanted to end this post off with sharing this! dont be afraid to evolve your brands tone of voice over time. Just make sure that you keep it consistent once you evolve it.
